The story begun at 08.30am this morning 09-07.2026, a true story. Now every morning I take our dog, Lunar, for a walk in our wonderful German surroundings called, The Eifel. We both enjoy it, especially Lunar when I allow her to 'run-free'. She does her 'business', sniffs here, sniffs there, cocks her leg up like all dogs do, and enjoys our walks. Lunar is an Indian street dog saved by our amazing daughter, Kelly. We adopted Lunar four-years-ago. It took her time to adapt to her new surroundings here, but now she just loves it.
After my recent illness when I was in hospital for three weeks, on the day I returned home, Liesbeth, my loving wife, kept it a secret from Lunar and told me to wait in front of the door, she then opened it and Lunar jumped all over me, what a fantastic welcome home! In fact, she would not leave me alone as I sat on the sofa being so grateful to be home again. The hospital stay was awful although the nurses and doctors were tremendous to me. Three major operations and recovery, but I hacked it home and there stood Lunar, I must admit a tear rolled down my cheek as I felt the love from her to me, it was an incredible feeling. Only the visits from my wife, children, the love, support, and care they showed me could beat Lunar's outburst of emotion. But Lunar is a member of our family too and everybody loves her.
Seven months on, my health is better, Liesbeth is looking after me well, and my 'Fitness Trainer' Lunar, makes sure we go for our daily walk. This morning, I had a fall on a path, Lunar was metres in front of me, she must have heard me stumble over and I was laying on the ground, luckily nothing broken just a couple of grazes on my knee and elbow. After realising I stumbled Lunar SPRINTED back to me, put her paw on me, licked my legs, sat down next to me and did not move until she was sure I was fine, which I told her, and she obviously understood what I was saying.
I had flashes of soldiers in wartime being wounded or shot with their dogs sitting next to them waiting until help arrived, these are amazing animals who can achieve wonderful things no doubt, and show emotions which we humans should never underestimate.
Before we had Lunar I didn't know much about dogs, Kelly, our awesome animal lover in the family, who has had many dogs and cats as pets, and saved many street dogs in India, always preached about how wonderful dogs are, now I know for definite!
Our Lunar, is a remarkable, loveable dog, she is our 'daughter' and I know most dog-lovers feel this way about their Canine Partners too. When they 'pass-over' it is painful, they can never be replaced and remain in our hearts forever even though another dog can fill the void. However, once we fall in love with our beloved 'partners', they will always remain special members of the family.
Lunar, you are our SUPER HERO, thank you for fulfilling our lives with your love and being part of our family.
