A World Divided By Two Worlds

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

We live in two worlds, one for the minority multi-millionaires, billionaires, the other less attractive version for the rest, like me, and even those worse off than me.

Every summer thousands, even millions of 'muy pobres' attempt, in pure desperation, to enter areas of economic, and safer sanctuaries hoping to improve their wretched lives dominated by poverty, wars, and natural catastrophies. Now it is obvious that richer economic areas on our planet cannot accomadate all those desperate enough to pay despicable people smugglers amounts up to and above 5000 Euros or Dollars for hazardous journeys across deserts, oceans, or half of South America.

Sadly, these desperate people willing to sell everything they have in these draconian attempts are perfect prey fro scavenging hyena-like smugglers, as they fall into their hands on an annual basis.

Many perish on these terrible journeys across land and sea and there is no need for me to list the amounts women, children, men, who have lost their lives hoping for a better life in wealthier economic areas travelling in leaking boats, trucks that resemble wrecks, air tight containers and other unacceptable means of travel.

So, the question is who is to blame, and what are the solutions for this modern-day phenomenom? Is it so modern? Throughout human history people's have always attempted to emigrate to improve their lives, a fact. However, due to the masses of migrants and amounts of modern media reporting about these tragic people, it has exarcabated the whole thing. But a simple fact is, if we are to be humane, and act as humans should, then those who rule the world should find solutions to stop this barbaous buisness of human-trafficking.

Sadly, the human race is far from finding solutions due to the immense problems of over-population, natural catastrophies, lack of financial support for impoverished geographical areas, human perpetrated disasters; wars, conflicts, etc. The list is endless for reasons behind these exodus's, however, one solution could be to invest correctly in such impoverished areas giving the people there a possibility of a humane life (A Utopian Ideal).

Writing a blog also offers no solution, but the reason I am writing this at this moment is simply because there are three multi-billionaires stuck in a submarine visiting the wreck of the imfamous disaster called 'The sinking of the Titanic'. These billionaires paid $250000 bucks for the pleasure and now it seems they could lose their lives in a most terrible manner, lack of oxygen (At the time of writing there is still hope). The whole global media is following this drama and the situation is creating headlines all over the planet causing a 'dilemma of priorities' by readers who follow the developing story, while a Turkish fishing boat overloaded with 750 migrants tipped over during its desperate passage from Turkey and Greece with the loss of 500 lives, both innocent women and children. This disaster caused 'ripples' of global media coverage and was echoed by the outcry of humanists comparing one terrible tragody with one pending loss of three lives, who just happen to be billionaires in a most precarious situation.

The major question is: How do we evaluate the value of all human lives? Do we value more the lives of billionaire adventurers searching for a 'kick' by viewing an historic tragody, or are the lives of migrants, escaping their wretched, impoverished lives less important?

I stand on the fence. All loss of life in tragic circumstances is horrific, and it mattes not who those victims are, billionaires, or 'muy pobres' roaming our planet. However, I do have strong opinions about how global media, in its attempt to attract viewers, readers, or gauklers, decide who, and what is more valuable, by prioritising one tragic event more than another just because of 'sensationism'.

My heart goes out to those desperate immigrants, mostly innocent women and children, who lose their lives, and if the three billionaires perish, I will not mourn their deaths, but I will respect the fact that such a terrible death, being avoidable, is still a tragody.

How do we decide which lives have more value than others? I do not have the answer, but it seems global media do have the answer!
